I found nearly a dozen spent 9mm shells in the street in front of my house this morning. I guess the loud popping noises that woke us up at 3am weren't really loud fireworks.

My fear.
My homepage reader has a multitude of news source feeds as well as a good number of (mostly) left leaning blogs like Kos and Think Progress. Reading these is akin to listening to snarky smart kids whisper and bitch about the bullies and teachers, all the while planning an eventual takeover. The build up to Obamas electoral win was a whirlwind of hopes and dreams and soon to be realized "nightmare over" moments that still spark and fly toward inauguration day, but the sputtering is starting to become more and more evident.
You see, the snarky, bitchyness is beginning to try and find a new place to settle. The old Republican base is so shattered and demoralized, that to attack them is like kicking a wounded dog. True, that dog may have barked and bitten, but now it is hurt and relatively harmless.
So where to focus years of oppressed bitterness and cynicism?
Now we come to my fear...a fear that I can see growing like a sprout rising from the soil.
You see...Obama is more symbol than actuality. He has, by nature of his rise and necessity, been reflective of our hopes and needs. He is collectively being dressed in a cape and super-outfit, when no such uniform is appropriate. It seems his every little misstep from the expected path shoots howls of terror and whimpering of most definite disappointment from the new disciples. The Obamabots, as I will now call them.
Obama has always maintained a barely left of center position in his pursuit of the presidency, but in relation to his predecessor, he seemed way way left. To the Obamabots, he was the saviour from the far left to be reflective of all the hopes and dreams they can project upon him, with little regard to reality or temperance. Once the president begins making choices (like Warren, Holder, TARP, et al...) that do not jibe with their image of them, they will begin to turn. We've seen it before. The hesitant eyes of an abuse victim, always waiting to be hurt. I've seen it up close and personal for the last 3.5 years in New Orleans. Disappointment will not be taken lightly. Too many "wrong" decisions, and they could turn, and in turn, sabotage the actual (and most likely, painfully slow) path to change. In fighting and finger-pointing and soon the jackals and damaged dogs on the right see the weak spot and pounce.
And then they will be forced back into the back of the room while the bullies take over again.
I hope I am wrong.

Four more days until the chimp in charge is out and the world can breathe a collective sigh of relief. I think that the only people who will miss the Bush mis-Admin. will be pundits, comedians and a few die-hard, clueless Repubs who still think Bush protected us from terrorism with his big ole' Cowboy swagger and steadfast ways.

The argument is that he kept us safe. No. He failed miserably. Right at the start.
Now..haters will blame this on Clinton. Clinton destroyed the military. Clinton is the go-to bugaboo for the reality deprived right.
Check facts. Clinton had a report prepared. Bush doesn't like long reading and pushed it aside.
Clinton bombed Al-Qaida camps and nearly killed Bin Laden. Bush had him cornered and let him go.
Let Keith Olbermann sum up the failings of the last eight years as only Countdown can do...

OK people. Great heroism..freezing water...everyone is safe..
I get it already!! Why the constant coverage of every facet of this event? Every news outlet is as fascinated by this situation like an autistic kid with a shiny toy.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military continues to murder civilians and lie about why. Meanwhile, people are dying of starvation and disease all over the world and RIGHT here at HOME. Meanwhile, criminal elements who have controlled our federal government are going to walk away unpunished, having used the Constitution like toilet paper and destroying our standing abroad.

So I happened to glance over at the television and was drawn in to the super-mega TV event that, until now, I have only mocked from afar as "American Karaoke". Should we Idolize warblers and idiots who sing other peoples songs? How about the real struggling musicians?
But I digress...
The human interest story through line was that of a blind young man who has struggled, achieved and used music as his way to blah blah blah and all that sappy shit. Obviously, even the mean old Simon (who, I must say, is almost worth the cost to my soul to watch, evil snarky Brit bastard that he is..) couldn't deny this young sight-slighted Aryan idol his upward mobility. So on he goes!
Now comes the funny part.
The after audition hallway. The family joyously congratulating our vision deprived hero.
Then Ryan Jizzbag launches his right hand up in full frat boy "High 5" mode.
At some point, you could see the "why you leaving me hanging" look change to a "oh, shit..I'm trying to High 5 a blind guy" face, as his hand slowly lowers and he tapped Senior Sightless on his dangling hand.
"I'm gonna give you a High 5" he says, then raises the kids hand. High 5 accomplished!!
Someone in the editing room probably laughed so hard he (or she) fudged the undies.
What now, Mr Seabreeze? Yell at the deaf guy crossing the road? Race a cripple?
